Wahkohtowin is currently in a 3 year pilot project with the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry to engage First Nations on a new integrated modelling platform. By engaging with First Nations, we can determine what types of concerns and/or needs communities are facing, which could potentially feed into the modeling platform to support decision making.

The future benefit of having landscape level models is that we can grow our own Indigenous priorities for monitoring which are often more holistic or at the landscape scale – often the best scale to establish cumulative effects monitoring programs.

Our role is to act as an extension service as part of the outreach we are conducting from our Innovation Center in Chapleau, Ontario.

See the video below for an introduction to the integrated forest modelling platform!

As part of this project, Wahkohtowin hosted a series of Watch and Learn sessions to share projects with a landscape level focus, and to encourage discussions with webinar participants.

If you missed out on attending any of these sessions, you can still check out the videos at the links below!
