Conservation Economy Youth Intern
Are you passionate about land stewardship, cultural revitalization, and supporting Indigenous-led initiatives? Wahkohtowin Development is seeking motivated Guardian Youth Intern to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that strengthen communities and foster environmental sustainability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
• Assist in environmental monitoring and data collection activities.
• Support the delivery of cultural programming and community events.
• Work collaboratively with community members to promote land stewardship practices.
• Participate in training and capacity-building sessions.
• Document and share progress through reports, photography, or other media as needed.
• Contribute to the planning and execution of community-led projects.

Adaptability and Resilience Capacity to work in diverse outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions and rugged terrain.
Ability to adapt to new tasks, challenges, and evolving program needs.
Communication Skills Basic verbal and written communication skills for reporting observations and sharing information.
Comfort participating in community discussions and events.
Ability to actively listen and convey respect in interactions with others.
Technical and Analytical Skills Willingness to learn and use tools for data collection (e.g., GPS devices, field notebooks, cameras).
Basic computer literacy for data entry, report writing, and online communication.
Attention to detail and ability to follow protocols for environmental monitoring.
Teamwork and Independence Ability to work collaboratively with a team while maintaining a sense of responsibility for individual tasks.
Self-motivation to complete tasks with minimal supervision when needed.
Commitment to Learning Eagerness to develop skills and knowledge in land stewardship, environmental management, and cultural practices.
Open to mentorship and lifelong learning opportunities.
Integrity and Accountability Honest and ethical behavior in all interactions.
Commitment to representing the values of the Guardian Program and the community.

REQUIREMENTS
• Aged 18-30, with a passion for land stewardship and cultural revitalization.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in various conditions.
• Interest in learning from Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community leaders.
• Previous experience in environmental science, cultural programming, or community work is an asset but not required.
• Willingness to travel to remote communities as needed.
EXPECTATIONS
Typical working hours: Monday to Friday – 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.
Additional hours may be required – especially where travel is required to meet owners, customers, project team and partners.
Requires a moderate amount of sitting for prolonged periods of time while using the computer. Moderate number of non-standard hours of work are required.
Comfortable working in the field outdoors in all weather
