Working as part of a multidimensional team, the Program Manager will lead the Guardian Program Coordinator and Cultural Revitalization Coordinator to execute on the organizational strategy and Guardian program strategy. This is a one year contract with the opportunity to renew or extend premised on the project’s overall success during the next 12 to 18 months. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Program Development: Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Guardian program, ensuring alignment with Wahkohtowin Development's mission, vision, and strategic goals

  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with indigenous communities, elders, leaders, and youth to understand their needs, priorities, and aspirations for self-determination and cultural resurgence

  • Partnership Development: Cultivate partnerships and collaborations with indigenous organizations, environmental groups, government agencies, and other stakeholders to advance shared goals of conservation, indigenous rights, and sustainable development.

  • Project Management: Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of Guardian program activities, including cultural events, land stewardship projects, capacity-building workshops, and advocacy campaigns.

  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership, guidance, and support to Guardian program staff, volunteers, and partners, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Develop and implement systems for monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the impact and outcomes of Guardian program initiatives, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.

  • Fundraising and Grant Management: Identify funding opportunities, prepare grant proposals, and manage grants and contracts to support Guardian program activities and operations.

  • Communication and Outreach: Develop and implement communication strategies to raise awareness of Guardian program initiatives, engage stakeholders, and amplify indigenous voices in advocacy efforts.

  • Budget Management: Develop and manage program budgets, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources and compliance with financial policies and procedures.

  • Adocacy and Policy Engagement: Advocate for indigenous rights, environmental justice, and social change at local, regional, and national levels, representing Wahkohtowin Development in relevant forums and coalitions.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's, Master's degree or Diploma in a relevant field (e.g., environmental studies, indigenous studies, community development) OR equivalent working and lived experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in program management, community development, or related fields, with a focus on indigenous rights, environmental justice, or social justice.

  • Strong understanding of indigenous cultures, traditions, and governance structures.

  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining relationships with indigenous communities, partners, and stakeholders.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.

  • Proven track record in project management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.

  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and grant management.

  • Knowledge of relevant policies, regulations, and issues related to indigenous rights, environmental conservation, and sustainable development.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Willingness to travel to indigenous communities and attend meetings and events as needed.

EXPECTATIONS
  • Typical working hours: Monday to Friday – 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

  • Additional hours may be required – especially where travel is required to meet owners, customers, project team and partners.

  • Requires a moderate amount of sitting for prolonged periods of time while using the computer. Moderate number of non-standard hours of work are required.

  • Comfortable working in the field outdoors in all weather
