The IC is being re-created at the Symposium in the form of a Resource Room for participants to network in a structured way with organizations

Wahkohtowin’s Innovation Center “The IC” is going on the road next week as part of the Indigenous Lands Symposium in Baawaating. The IC is being re-created at the Symposium in the form of a Resource Room for participants to network in a structured way with organizations that have technical or operational knowledge to share with First Nations, Indigenous-led organizations, Communities, and individuals. Each ‘host’ has chosen three topic areas to facilitate conversations on. They can also provide resources and network connections to further indigenous-led initiatives in conservation, land management, finance, grant funding and a wide range of other subject areas.

Resource Rooms hosts include: Wahkohtowin, The Restore, Assert, Defend (RAD) Network, One Bowl, FSC Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario, Nature Conservancy of Canada, Ontario Nature, Ducks Unlimited Canada and Ontario Conservation Accelerator. Each host has planned 90-minute sessions in three parts to give as many Symposium participants and organizations as possible the chance to connect, ask questions, and support all the great work that is happening or about to happen, being led by First Nations and Indigenous communities across the country.

Topics being covered are diverse: Decolonizing collaboration and working in ethical space, carbon project development and finance, legal options for conserving land, and advanced wetland inventories. The goal is for participants to meet key people from organizations that could support or help technically inform their work on their lands. There are ten 90-minute sessions planned that are already generating a lot of enthusiasm already from both hosts and participants. If you are already signed up to the Lands Symposium make sure to check the Resource Room schedule out and join for one or multiple sessions!
